Importance of proper neck curvature
The ideal neck/cervical spine should consist of 34-42 degree of posterior curvature that is measured from the base of the skull to the top of upper back. A reduction of this curvature can cause increase tension over the muscles, ligaments, disc and nerve/spinal cord. It can result in chronic recurrent neck pain, headaches, dizziness, weakness in the arms, reduced range of motions in the neck and shoulders, and even tension and pain in the upper to low back. It can also cause early degenerative changes in the spine. This reduction of neck curvature can result from improper posture or past injuries which can be as minor as a fender bender car accident to something major like landed on the head while snowboarding. In order to live a healthy and active life, it is important to have you spine check on a regular basis to maintain their proper curvature.
