What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that improves the body's functions and promotes a natural self-healing process. Thin needles are inserted into the body to stimulate specific anatomic sites. It is generally practiced without the use of medications or invasive therapies and treatments. Patients often experience decreased pain and muscle tightness after treatment.

Am I a candidate for Acupuncture treatment?

To determine if you are a candidate for Acupuncture treatment, a physician needs to perform a complete clinical assessment and examination. If you are not a candidate for Acupuncture care, or if you require medical treatment beyond the scope of Acupuncture, you will be referred to the appropriate specialist or practitioner.

What should I expect at my Acupuncture appointment?

You will be asked to complete paperwork about your medical history and reason for visiting the physician. After examination by your physician, a report of findings and a proposed treatment plan will be given. You may be treated to prior treatment, such as massage, to help your body prepare for Acupuncture treatment. When getting your treatment, you may experience nerve stimulation from the needles. The purpose of the treatment is to reduce the stress in the specified area. Stimulated sites may take a while to react, however, treatment is designed to improved mobility and decrease pain.
